The midwest just had its second fourth of July as dozens crowded around to watch a large-scale demolition in lawn chairs and on boats.
The retired James De Young power plant in Holland was imploded Thursday morning. The city plans to redevelop the 17-acre property on the Lake Macatawa waterfront in downtown Holland.

Earlier today, the James DeYoung Power Plant was demolished through a controlled implosion in Holland, Michigan. The coal power plant had been closed since 2017 after supplying Holland with electricity for 78 years.
The implosion looks insane as the massive building topples over into rubble after a rapid series of detonations.
Locals viewed the demo from the waterfront or on boats in the harbor, from a safe distance of course. Dozens of white-haired onlookers enjoyed the show from beach chairs.
